Subaru History

In July 1953, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. was founded. Just two years later, on April 1, 1955, it consolidated five companies under its banner. The name “SUBARU” is derived from the Japanese term for the Pleiades, an open star cluster in the Taurus constellation. Initially pronounced as "Misumaru," meaning "to unite a group of six stars in Taurus," the pronunciation evolved over time from "Misumaru" to "Sumaru" and finally to "SUBARU."
